Mother Dearest (psst, a giveaway)

This is a beautiful animation for Mother's Day. Yves Geleyn's artistry is inspiring (and I love this other piece he did called Kotori)

You Raise Me Up

As a kid, I remember how Mom would surprise us once in a while with a pack of fried hokkien mee for supper. We would whip out our chopsticks, take in the rich smell that rises with the steaming noodles, and share the joy of eating together. Tangy lime on my finger tips and the taste of egg, thick stock and chilli linger into the night. This could be why I love that dish so much.

*GIVEAWAY ALERT* Share your best memory about your Mother, and you might just win this handbound journal. The winner will be picked on 11 May, Mother's Day.

PS The memories shared thus far have been great. Don't miss out reading them, and of course, adding your own.

My best memory with my mom is when I was a teenager, right when she was trying to go to sleep, I'd run in her room and jump on her bed, wanting to talk and goof off. Even if she was tired she'd stay up with me. I miss that. :)

My best memory with my mother is our birthday retreats. Our birthdays are a day apart, so starting when I was 14, we would plan something special, maybe a brunch/shopping trip/day at the spa to celebrate both of our birthdays together. We really were best friends and those birthdays were amazing bonding experiences.

great video :)
my best memories would be when she would take me and my sister out of school for our dentist appointments. she was very anal about us going to school but twice a year we'd all take the day off, get our teeth cleaned (sad face), go to a restaurant , go shopping and have a girls day.

My best memory with my Mom is playing Yahtzee! One day, I stayed home from school and we stayed in our pj's all day playing Yahtzee and eating popcorn! My Dad came home and we dashed as quickly as we could getting some dinner ready, giggling all the while.

Now.. my daughter and I play Yahtzee and she is only 7. :)

My best memory of my mom. Hmmm. Every summer our family used to go camping. It makes me really happy to think about when my mom and I would walk down to the showers together. What a random memory to pop into my head. I remember singing in campground showers loud enough for everyone to hear. We didn't care that other people could hear us. I remember wrapping towels around our heads and walking back to our camp site in the dark with our flashlights. Aww, mom. Now I have to go hunt for a camping themed card to send to her :)

I love the dish! It looks very yummy and the video really is absolutely gorgeous.

What a contest I must say. When I read it that "I don't belong" syndrome began to take over me as the issue of my mother makes me a little standoffish, shy, and unrelatable. But as I started to think I said to myself that I have many wonderful memories of my mother in such a unique way. So with a huge sigh I build up courage to actually write this.

My shyness and standoffness comes from my mother being killed by a drunk driver when I was just 1 year old, so I didn't know my mother at all. She left beautiful twins, myself and my brother, and through my father, who was a single father, is where I have the best memories of her. I am told by my family that I am JUST like her and though I never knew her, I look in the mirror and when seeing my self, I see her. I say to myself often that in knowing who I am, I know her. From as young as I can remember my father talked about my mother everyday of his life. I didn't know it then, but he had a true love for her and everyday he talked about how different, smart, unique, special she was. She was a writer and poet, just as I am today. She was a basketball player and a straight A student even after having twins. When other family members talked about her I learned that with twins she would write down all her task for the day and before the day was over she had accomplished every single one. I laughed inside as I do the same thing. The fondest memory that I think about every now and then is when I was about 8 years old and my father showed me a navy blue notebook that my mother used to write in and she had written in blue ink on the glossy cover of the notebook and the only way to see what she had written was to hold the notebook up to the light in such a way to catch the words. I always remembered that. I don't know what happened to that notebook but I thought it was the mose interesting thing.

All in all, these are the types of memories that I have of my mother, through relatives and mostly from my father's favorite words, "There was no one like your mother." He said this one sentence very often.

My best memory of my mother was making Christmas cookies together. Mostly I just ate the dough and she would playfully scold me for it, but you could tell she really didn't care.

There is a picture in my mind of my mom and I snuggled together on our couch, early in the morning with the sunlight streaming in the window. That is my favourite memory of my mom but it happened MANY times which makes it even better!
